Did you know you can make pumpkins out of scrap wood? These DIY Wooden Pumpkins are a fun affordable Fall decor idea!
Repurposing and up-cycling unused items is one of my favorite things to do. I love breathing new life into an old piece of furniture, or discarded scraps. There is something so satisfying about finding new purposes for old things. This DIY Wooden Pumpkins are a fun weekend craft you can do with things you probably already have on hand!
Materials Needed for DIY Wooden Pumpkin Blocks
- 4 x 4 lumber
- Speed square
- Circular saw
- Paint: orange, white and black
- Paint brush
- Sander
- Drill
- Spade bit
- 3/8 rope
- Hot glue gun
How do I make DIY Wooden Pumpkins?
First, Measure and cut across the width of the 4×4 until you have three pumpkins. The pumpkins are cut to 11″, 9″ and 6″. Secondly, add a base coat of paint, allow it to dry. Then add a coat of orange paint. By applying a base coat in a color such as white, it allows you a lot of flexibility in the final look. If you would like to distress your pumpkin the extra coat provides depth and interest.
Once the orange coat of paint is dry, paint the face of your pumpkin. You can freehand this and create and design you like, or you can use a scrap piece of cardboard and cut a template. I used the template method to create a uniform look. But have fun with it! Create your own design if you’d like!
Lastly, cut several pieces of rope and use hot glue to create a pumpkin stem. Locate the center of the top of your pumpkin and drill a hole for the stem. Secure the stem in place with hot glue.
Don’t worry, there are step by step photos and a video tutorial below so you can see exactly how the pumpkins are made! Just scroll down.
