A DIY Pallet Christmas Tree is a fun project that will allow your family to build their own winter wonderland without breaking the bank!

Learn how to build an easy DIY pallet wood Christmas tree for some of your Christmas décor! These trees are a great way to inexpensively decorate for Christmas and get the family involved in a little creative thinking. Pallet wood is versatile and cheap so let your creative juices flow and have some fun. Trees can be tall and thin, short and wide, painted, stained or plain, lit or not.

This tutorial will guide you through the process of building pallet wood Christmas trees. There is even a video to help show you the process. These trees can be given as gifts, too. You may even want to build your own forest!

Materials needed for this project:

  • Pallet Wood
  • Screws
  • Tape Measure
  • Circular Saw
  • Pencil
  • Drill with Bits
  • Paint or Stain

How do I make a pallet Christmas Tree?

Measure and mark the outline of the Christmas tree on the pallet. I like to mark from the widest point to the most narrow points on the pallet.

Notice that I did not include the bottom slat of the pallet to be part of the tree. This slat will be removed and a stand will be attached to the stringer (that middle board holding all the boards together) currently occupied by the slat.

The next step is to get your saw. Power saws work best here, but a hand saw will do also. Cut along the outline of the tree until you have the tree cut.

Now it’s time to remove the bottom slat and the slats across the back of the stringer. This can be done by cutting the nails that attach the stringer to the slate or prying the slats away from the stringer. I chose to pry the slats away from the stringer.

Build the tree stand by attaching leftover slats from the pallet to the stringer that runs up the center of the tree holding the slats together.

Now that the tree is standing, it’s time to decide if you want to add some color or let it stay in its natural condition. You could add some color, lights, and decorations if you’d like! These rustic yard decorations will become a hit in any neighborhood!
