Christmas trees are a staple for Christmas decor and a great way to get the family involved in a little creative thinking. These trees can be built to free-standing or leaning. Pallet wood is versatile and cheap so let your creative juices flow and have some fun. Trees can be tall and thin, short and wide, painted, stained or plain, lighted or not.
This tutorial will guide you through the process of building pallet wood Christmas trees. There is even a video to help show you the process. These trees can be given as gifts, too. You may even want to build your own forest!

How do I make two Christmas Trees, using one pallet?
Measure and mark the outline of the Christmas tree on the pallet. I removed to back slats before marking the pallet for cutting. They can be removed after cutting the pallet it doesn’t matter when but they will have to be removed.
Now it’s time to cut the pallet. Power saws work best here, but a hand saw will do also. Cut along the outline of the tree until you have the pallet cut into three pieces. The middle piece will be a complete tree.
Step 2. The second tree is built by assembling the two outside pieces.
Now it’s time to assemble the second tree, it will be made using the outside two pieces created when the pallet was cut in step one. It’s always a good idea to dry-fit the pieces be assemble. Dry-fitting gives you a chance to see what might need to be corrected before attaching the two pieces. Dry-fitting showed me that I would need to use multiple wood clamps because one stringer was bowed and would need to be held in place while I used the drill to affix the two pieces.
Step 3. Building the stands for the trees.
Neither tree was built to have a trunk but you have options, build and attach a traditional stand or attach a slat for a leaning stand.
Traditional stand: To build the traditional stand use some pallet runners to add a truck and stand pieces to attach to the trunk. Build the tree stand by attaching leftover slats from the pallet to the stringer that runs up the center of the tree holding the slats together.
Leaning stand: The leaning stand is made up of one pallet slat, cut the lower end of the slat at about 25 degrees and the upper end of the slat will need to be cut to an angle that supports the tree at the angle you like. Attach the slat to the center stringer of the tree.
Have fun with your new trees add some color, decorations, or whatever you’d like! These rustic yard decorations will become a hit in any neighborhood!
